Experience Highlights

Here's what they said!

"I had 4 days in the Chang Mai area and had I discovered Pen's Homestay sooner, I would have spent all 4 days there. Pen's prices were very competetive. We covered alot of ground in those 2 days yet my party and I never felt rushed. She had a great intuition for how we could fill the day to satisfy our interests and not become overburdened. Not only does she know all of the native dialects of the region (Shan, Lahu, Karen, and Lisu at least), but she is family friends with many of the residents of these villages. The beauty of it is, Pen's English is flawless; she understands nuances in it like humor and sarcasm. As she took us through various villages, she translated her discussions with the natives for us and helped us communicate with them too. We had such a great look into the daily lives of these beautiful people and they were happy to have us Farangs!

Pen's knowledge of the area is superb. We traveled to remote villages who had locals guide us to and through hidden caves whose splendor exceeds the more well-known locales. She told us the names and uses of herbs and wildlife on the way, and even picked some for us to use. I have a feeling we barely scratched the surface of her abilities and available opportunities there. She cooked us authentic meals made from ingredients bought from the villages and made us feel at home so far away from home.

Pen's philanthropy in the area made me especially happy to support her. She is helping the monks near Tham Lod build a kitchen in their temple and she is developing a local library (the only one?) to document the hidden beauties of northern Thailand. The people know and love her for her work in their community and we were welcomed wherever we went."
